Our Photography Essentials course offers a good understanding of the basic principles of Photography and how to apply them in real world situations.
Whether you are a raw beginner or have been shooting for some time but would like to improve your understanding and skill level, this is a a great starting point.
In this introductory short course we cover:
- Overview of basic camera gear
- General Maintenance
- Camera setup and functions
- An understanding of
- Exposure
- ISO
- Shutter Speed
- Aperture
- Focus
- Practical exercises
The course is either split into 2 x 1.5 hour sessions split over 2 evenings or combined into a single morning or afternoon with a short break in the middle.
This is a classroom based course (both theory and practical exercises) and can be run in any suitable venue including your home if you have a few friends to join you.
Our classes are limited to 6 participants to ensure that there is sufficient time for each participant to grasp the concepts, have questions answered and do the practical exercises.

FAQ
We do not supply camera equipment. It is important that you use your own gear and familiarize yourself with the gear that you have available.
While a DSLR is preferred the concepts and principles are the same regardless of what camera you use. Some cameras will have more or less features available allowing you more or less manual control but the basic principles stay the same.
Bear in mind that if your camera does not offer a full suite of controls you may not be able to fully participate in all of the practical exercises.
These courses are designed for those using basic equipment.
In most cases, other than a camera, there is no specific equipment required.
A tripod is always helpful and a flash may be necessary for some courses and situations.
